Basketball Tryouts for 4th-8th Grade Homeschooled

Tryouts will be Monday 3/4, Tuesday 3/5, and Friday 3/8. Please attend as many days as possible. Practice starts Monday 3/11. Practice days, until games start, are Monday, Tuesday, and Friday. 

4^th-6^th grades JV team will be 2:30-3:45pm.

7^th-8^th grades varsity team will be 3-4:30pm.

Players should bring plenty of water (much more than a 20 oz. bottle).

Tryouts and Practice will be at Stearns Park.

If we have enough girls tryout, we will have a separate girl’s team. Otherwise, the teams will be coed. Coach Gina Greene will coach the varsity team and Coach Junior Doughlin will coach the JV team. 

Practice will be 3 days a week until games start. Games will start March 26^th. Games are usually on Tuesdays and Fridays but may vary. Games will be scheduled at the league meeting on March 20th. An email will be sent out to parents with the game schedule once it is set. Once games start, we will practice once a week with games usually twice a week. The game season typically lasts 4-5 weeks with 5-7 games. There may be another 1-3 games at the end of the season if our teams make it to the championship games. JV team (4^th-6^th) plays games at 3:30pm and Varsity team (7^th-8^th) plays games at 4:30pm. Players arrive 30 minutes before the game to warm up. 

Tampa Bay HEAT is in the TBCAL league which is comprised of area private schools. The farthest team is about 40 minutes away with most teams in the Brandon area.

Players are not required to be at every practice, but it is highly recommended. 

Season fees of $125 and jersey payments of $20 will be paid to Tampa Bay HEAT and given to Laura Osborne the week before games start. Players will need to provide their own no pocket black shorts for the games. If your player purchased a new HEAT jersey from TBCAL volleyball, soccer, or flag football this year or last year, there is no need to purchase another. Please include jersey size in registration. Sizes available are YS, YM, YL, AS, AM, AL, AXL. Jewelry and pocketed shorts may not allowed by referees during the game. Mouth guards are recommended during practice and games. 

You must be a current Heat member to play competitive basketball.  You can join HEAT any time.

This is a competitive team, and play time will not be equal or guaranteed at any game.  We do, however, try to develop our less experienced players at practice and at games that are not close in score.

Players may be placed on the developmental team if they don’t have the necessary basketball skills to play during games. 

If you want to play basketball but can’t make it to tryouts that week, please note that on your registration. 

There are NO REFUNDS once payment is rendered the week before games start.
