Physics Course Description Physics is not a required course for graduation, but it is an excellent course to take if your child plans on going to college or applying for Bright Futures Scholarship. It is especially useful for those interested in engineering or the medical field. This course will give them a wonderful foundation for those college level courses. This class will cover (1) high school science credit with lab. It is a great class for students who want to be able to explain the natural phenomena around them and use simple mathematical equations to do it. This course covers such topics as one and two-dimensional motion, Newton’s laws and their applications in nature, work and energy, electricity, magnetism, momentum, periodic motion, waves, and optics. Learning methods will include required and optional reading materials, laboratory experiments, games, completing interactive activities with the internet and technology.

This course will be using the textbook, which each student will need to purchase before the first class: Apologia Exploring Creation with Physics 2nd edition textbook only

Prerequisite: This course is designed for the student who has completed Algebra 1 and geometry and has had an introduction to the definitions of sine, cosine, and tangent.

Lab Topics include:

  1. Motion in One Dimension –Calculating distance, velocity, and acceleration
  2. Acceleration Due to Gravity
  3. Determining a Person’s Reaction Time
  4. Factors that Affect Air Resistance

Ms. Shauna Beasley provides an engaging curriculum and a nurturing environment for all students to grow and express their creativity. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Applied Mathematics with concentrations in Computer Engineering, Literature Studies, and Geology from Auburn University and considers herself a lifelong learner.

Ms. Beasley is a retired Florida Educator who was certified Elementary Education K-6 and Mathematics 6-12 with endorsements in Gifted, ELL, SWD, and Reading. She is also Level 3 International Baccalaureate trained and has coached FIRST LEGO League robotics teams since 2006. Ms. Beasley considers teaching and mentoring students her life work and to that end she works passionately to help each individual student realize their full potential from a constructivist educational philosophy and a whole child development perspective.

She taught at MacFarlane Park International Baccalaureate Magnet Elementary (all subjects) and at C. Leon King International Baccalaureate Magnet High School (Mathematics- Algebra 2, Geometry, Trigonometry, and Math Analysis, as well as technology (Information Technology in a Global Society). She has always been rated as a Highly Effective teacher and has been recognized and honored with numerous awards for her teaching.

Ms. Beasley has a passion for teaching math and science and her students say her classes are fun and engaging. They especially appreciate that they never wonder "When will I ever need this in my life?" She is entering her second year teaching with HEAT.
