High School Thursdays at the Homeschool Resource Center First Semester: August 22nd-December 12th Second Semester: January 9th-May 1st TEACHER BIO: My name is Kelly Mamott. I am a Christian, and former homeschooling mom. I graduated in 1988 from the University of Central Florida with a degree in Mathematics Education. I was certified in Florida for Mathematics Grade 6-12. I taught in a public Middle School until my first child was born in 1993. We began our homeschool journey in 2002. I have homeschooled our 4 children. During these years, I also taught several homeschool classes, including Algebra, Geometry, and Chemistry as well as variety of co-op style classes. I have privately tutored students in various high school math classes. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to teach high school level math courses with the Tampa Bay HEAT. This will be my sixth year with the HEAT. For the coming school year I am pleased to offer the following High School Courses: Contact info: email: [email protected] cell: 239-628-6973 Algebra 1: Geometry/Geometry Honors: Algebra 2: Pre Requisites: All student families must be HEAT members. Algebra 1: Students should have successfully completed Pre-Algebra or a strong math curriculum, such as Saxon 87 or Abeka “Basic Mathematics.” Student must be able to competently add, subtract, multiply and divide whole numbers, fractions and decimals. Geometry/Algebra 2: Students must have successfully completed Algebra 1. They may take either Algebra 2 or Geometry. If you will be enrolling in the HEAT science/English courses, you can go either route to help with scheduling the desired classes. Course Fees: The cost for each class is $420. It is payable as follows: $70 Facility fee/non-refundable deposit: This is payable directly to the HEAT when you register, This secures your seat in the class. $350 This is paid directly to the teacher on the first day of class. This may be broken into 2 payments, (half by August 1st and half on or before December 75h.) This is payable via cash, or check made out to Kelly Mamott Discounts: A $50 discount will be applied to those students who have the textbook IN HAND on the first day of class. If text is back ordered or forgotten, no discount is applied. For families with multiple students in my classes, you may deduct $100 from the teacher fee for the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th student in a family. Families are also eligible for the text discount above. Zoom Tutoring: Free, optional tutoring via Zoom will be offered on Monday afternoons from 2-4 PM for students who need extra help. Geometry or Geometry Honors: 10:15-11:45 AM Covers all topics in Euclidean Geometry, including logic and proofs. Even if the student found Algebra to be a challenge, he/she should be able to succeed in this thorough but engaging course. Students will have the option of doing the extra Honors assignments to make this an Honors course. Class size limit is 20 students. These spaces will fill as the non-refundable deposit (facility fee) is received. Curriculum: Please purchase for your student the textbook, GEOMETRY: SEEING, DOING, UNDERSTANDING(Third Edition) by Harold Jacobs. Unlike the Algebra courses, the students will not be writing in the textbook, so it can be reused or sold after this class. As I have taught with this text for several years there are many HEAT families who may have a used copy. A spiral or 3 ring binder is also necessary for homework assignments and notes. Students should also purchase a ruler/compass/protractor set for class use. Please bring to each class. |
