Queens, Kings, and Conquerors Unit Study Drop Off

Fall 2023

Homeschool Resource Center

307 S. Parsons Ave.

Brandon, 33511

Fridays beginning August 25th and running for 12 weeks

9:00 AM-12:00 PM

A look at military and political figures and findings that explores the literature, science, art, and culture they left us. We will learn how people hundreds of years before us engineered castles and weapons while making advances and mistakes in medicine and public health, how Guttenberg changed the world forever, and so much more. In class we'll be reading, writing, role-playing, watching documentary footage, having guest speakers, and playing games to reinforce concepts in literature, art, geography, history, math, science, and humanities.

No textbook is required but students should bring a bag with a folder, pencil, snacks/lunch and water. This is a longer class to allow more in-depth learning and retention (and because we all know what traffic and parking are like).

9am to 12 noon, please no drop-offs earlier than 8:50am for safety and crowd control.

Suggested grades 2 through 5 (age 6-12) but you know your child's interest and capacity best. We will be practicing important reading and math skills for reading maps, timelines, and charts.

$360 per HEAT student for 12 weeks of instruction.

Teacher Bio: Rebecca Hartley-Woods is a Jesus-loving, crazy plant and chicken lady, with 5 homeschooling wildlings who believe in learning by doing and reading books should be a treasured pastime.

After returning to Florida from service in the US NAVY (where I met my husband and best shipmate), I attended Liberty University's distance learning program to major in Human Services while beginning my career in public health. My specialty is Maternal Health and stage-based counseling and behavioral change therapy. My first experience with teaching (other than helping in Sunday school), was within the justice system teaching health and safety classes in jails, rehabilitation, and juvenile detention centers to students ranging in age from 10 to over 70! As much as anyone loves a captive audience, I must say I enjoy teaching S.T.E.A.M. and other homeschool classes these days much more.

I currently serve as an independent Doula and Birth Assistant for families and midwives in Tampa Bay, maintaining current Doula, Childbirth and Lactation Education Certifications. During this season, I am reducing the number of births I attend to instead pour into our younger generations as educating and empowering them will ultimately lead to a better world for us all.
